| ABSTRACT: | In April 1976, a multi-disciplinary Jordanian-German team of professional staff began the task of preparing documents for the formulation of a National Water Master Plan of Jordan. These joined efforts resulted from a technical cooperation agreement between the government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany. In line with the objectives of the work, a systematic approach incorporating all the most significant aspects of nationwide water resources planning was adopted, and the documentation now available allows a comparative review of the water resources and water use in Jordan (East Bank). This documentation is based on existing data and information, and incorporates projections taking into consideration development potentials and medium- term (1985) and long-term (2000) development plans. Particular attention was paid to an analysis of Socio- Economic and regional development trends, in order to assess their effects on projections and to facilitate the identification of development priorities in cases where available water resources and their regional distribution constitute constraints. In this way, the framework and procedures for the formulation of the National Water Master Plan of Jordan (the Plan) have been established. The findings of the studies and reviews - although they have had to be based on a number of estimates and assumptions because of insufficient data sources - were considered to be adequate for realistic first conclusions. Accordingly, recommendations have been drawn up for a nationwide water allocation program. They were intended to be of help in the making of high-level decisions on the policies and strategies to be adopted for the optimum utilization of water resources. The Plan is in seven volumes: * Vol. 1 - Main Report * Vol. 2 - Atlas * Vol. 3 - Surface Water Resources * Vol. 4 - Groundwater Resources * Vol. 5 - Irrigation Water Demand * Vol. 6 - Domestic/Industrial Water Demand * Vol. 7 - Socio-Economic Aspects |
